In-situ bioremediation

Biodegradation is a natural and sustainable process. The process is usually very slow by nature. As a specialist, Biosoil Europe is able to optimise and accelerate this process.

There are 2 possible degradation processes:

  • Aerobic biodegradation
  • Anaerobic biodegradation

We have developed various methods to carry out these in-situ processes.

We use in-situ remediation based on aerobic degradation within the area to be treated, often horizontal and vertical remediation filters connected to a soil remediation plant. The systems are preferably built underground. A groundwater treatment plant is often included in the design, for example for the removal of pure product and cleaning of groundwater. The soil remediation plant is the heart of our remediation system and the point from which the decontamination process is controlled and regulated. The engineering and construction of the installation is carried out by Biosoil Europe under its own management.

In anaerobic in situ projects, the electron donor (the necessary additive) is dispersed in the soil by in-situ remediation systems or by means of direct injections. The electron donor can often be quickly and effectively spread through the contaminated soil by means of in-situ remediation systems. The electron donor can also be inserted using direct injections or through injection filters. The injections should usually be repeated. A pilot is often conducted prior to anaerobic in-situ injection-based remediation to enable optimal remediation design.
